Let’s talk about poor timing. Like having your gestational diabetes test two days after Halloween. Doh, silly me for scheduling that!
Rant time: dear anyone who designs and makes maternity clothes. Please note, sweat pants are NOT WORK APPROPRIATE Give me options for the love of god. And for the stores that DO have work appropriate pants, yes, I am having a boy. That does not mean that I need room for my own penis in the pants. For the love of god, can we just not have fitted flattering clothes please???
I had loads of maternity clothes leftover from Jack. I lent them out, and let’s just say they came back shorter than when they left my possession. Tall girl pants have a very specific laundry routine, and it seems like the years were not good to my pants. They’re all high-waters, except for one pair of jeans. I’ve been to six stores, and none have any pants remotely attractive, work appropriate, or fitted to the point where I don’t look like I am George Constanza.
So, I’m going to get another pair of leggings and some warm tights, and just embrace the fact that I’m going to have to wear dresses and skirts to work until this kid comes out in less than 12 weeks. I’m so so so so thankful to be pregnant, but man I would love a nice pair of well-fitting pants.
We had the hottest and driest year on record in Seattle, and yet there was a torrential downpour all day yesterday. We were blessed that it stopped raining about five seconds after we left the house for trick-or-treating, but man the storm during the day was pure craziness.
Everyone have a nice Halloween? Thanks to my friend Maura’s inspiration, I came up with a very fun costume to wear to work and for trick-or-treating.
Oh, and did I mention that thanks to a $3 bottle of paint from Joanns, it glowed too!
Bennett’s death star was drawn by Troy. Total free-hand style, except for tracing a metal bowl to get the circle shape. He’s got some pretty amazing skills. Totally why I married him. He then strung up a Tie-Fighter and the Millenium Falcon on wire, and created a loop so I could wear them around my neck while they “floated” around my belly. Basically, it was the best thing ever.
For those of you who commented on my “If You Only Knew” post on the blog and Facebook, you’ll be happy to know that I did send the note to Mrs. M. It was the kind of note I would want to handwrite, and I had wanted to send it AFTER his conference on Monday, but I found out that the day I wrote that post was actually her birthday. She sent me the sweetest response, and said I made her birthday. I did not send it to the principal like some people suggested, simply because our principal’s wife reads my blog. 🙂 As far as I know, she is the only one (hopefully) from his school that does. Troy and I are both the kids of teachers, so we know how hard they work, how little they hear the good from parents. And we also both know how teacher kids get roped in to spending their summer break organizing classrooms, making bulletin boards, counting out test sheets, and cleaning. coughslavelaborcough.
Meal plan time!
Monday:: Salmon cakes, salad, and I’m going to try out these buttermilk biscuits that my friend sent me.
Tuesday:: I’m technically off on Tuesday, but have to go in that night for a three hour meeting. winning. I’m leaving a pizza to cook, and smoothies to drink.
Wednesday:: Baked potato soup, salad.
Thursday:: Roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, and roasted brussels sprouts.
Friday:: Popcorn dinner!
Saturday:: Fart soup, which is Troy’s name for French onion soup. I make it in the crockpot. The recipe is from a blog that is no longer active. I need to repost it some time, because it’s amazing, simple, and sooooo flavorful!
Sunday:: Family dinner!
This week I spent $3.50 at the farm for raw milk, $45.81 at Costco, and a whopping $57.19 at Trader Joes. About 50% of that Trader Joes bill is related to absolutely nothing we needed for this week. Our closest TJ’s is about 35-40 min away, so when I go, I get things I can only find there, even if I know I won’t use them right away.
What are you having this week?
